Do I need an account on mobile?

Usually not to start. On iPhone, you can begin without an account and stay local-first; you can add Apple-backed options later if you want sync across your Apple devices. On Android, Google sign-in is used when you want sync and backup, while many flows still work locally.

Why does the website ask me to sign in?

Because the website is the app. StowLedger on the web is a full dashboard. Signing in connects you to the same account you can use on your phone when sync is enabled.

Where is my data stored?

On your device first. If you enable sync, data may also live in your chosen cloud account (for example iCloud on Apple or Firebase-backed flows on Android/Google). We don't sell your personal expense data. See the Privacy policy for specifics.

Optional. When it is on, changes can sync across devices on the same account so web and mobile stay aligned. That is for backup and access, not ads.

Yes on mobile. You can add expenses and scan receipts without internet. When you're back online, changes can sync if sync is turned on.

Create a group, add members, and log shared expenses with equal or custom splits. The app shows who owes whom and lets you record payments. You can use itemized or recurring group expenses too.
